In the heart of Montreal, a small mountain magnified by a multitude of interventions reflecting the singularities of this exceptional site. The speaker will address the mosaic of mountain landscapes, their genesis and their future. It will emphasize the vision of Frederick Law Olmsted and the exceptional legacy that results from it. The institutional landscapes will be presented more briefly, emphasizing their privileged relationship with this mountain in the heart of our city. Other tours, guided by Myriam Cloutier, director of heritage programs at Mount Royal Cemetery, and by Steven Lapidus, lecturer at Concordia University in the Canadian Jewish Studies department, will introduce you to the funerary heritage of Mount Royal, including Jewish cemeteries and the Mont-Royal cemetery, opened in 1852 by the Protestant community of Montreal. It has been designated a national historic site of Canada.Its rural layout and natural environment are inspired by that of rural cemeteries erected in France and the United States at the beginning of the 19th century.
